Worried by the incessant and avoidable accidents involving buses conveying pupils and students to and from school; and in order to achieve high safety standards of vehicles and minimal risks of commuting students and pupils, the Federal Road Safety Corps [FRSC] in collaboration with Standards Organisation of Nigeria [SON] has developed standards for school buses in Nigeria.
In an effort to publicise the content of the standards, sensitization workshop is being planned as follows;
29th March, 2011 at Premier Hotel Banquet Hall, Ibadan
31st March, 2011 at Golden Tulip Hotel along Government House Road, Enugu
4th April, 2011 at Endwell Conference Hotel Kaduna
All Stakeholders are invited to attend this sensitization workshop to create awareness, popularise the standards and commence implementation of approved guidelines.
I will be part of the Enugu workshop, as a special invitee of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ [FRSC] Safety and Engineering Department [SED] having been a member of the team that drafted the Guidelines for Periodic Technical Inspection [PTI] Motor Vehicles in Nigeria and a member of the National Committee on Establishment of Motor Vehicle Administration [MVA] in the States.
Having seen the dedication of the Corps to sanitizing our roads and making them safer for life and properties; I wish to continue to identify with the Corps as a consultant and most importantly as a private citizen, to help make our roads safe for all.
Join me to help the Corps ‘to eradicate Road Traffic Crashes and create safe motoring environment in Nigeria’.
The “Approved Standards for School Buses in Nigeria” is a key step in the right direction. What I expected to see at this site is the outcome of the completed workshop.
This is so assuring and it is such an encouraging effort.However, I would expect the Commision to collaborate with existing platforms that have been working and campaigning for standard school bus operation in Nigeria.TOCSS Foundation pioneered the child passenger safety campaign which includes the standard opeartions of school buses in Nigeria.We have developed a training module for that purpose.
